Ordering a bottle of wine at a restaurant can cost up to six times as much as the same bottle at home. It’s an unfortunate fact.
According to a Cnn Money report, prices for higher end wines are often doubled at restaurants and cheaper bottles may be three times more expensive.
The change arrived from China, Diners have been allowed to bring their own drinks to restaurants after the food industry caved in to pressure from consumers and lifted a ban.
The Food Industry Management Regulation in Wuhan in Hubei province had earlier said restaurants have the right to refuse service to customers who bring their own food or drinks into food joints.
According to Global Times, the authorities were forced to lift the ban after the China Consumers Association (CCA) reacted to the regulation, saying it was unfair, even though the unwritten rule is a common practice in restaurants overseas and even in Hong Kong.
Industry representatives said the rule is deleted with effect from May 1.
“Why do customers have to spend so much more money on drinks that they can get at a lower price at the supermarket?” Huang Weiyu, a resident of Wuhan, was quoted as saying.
Some customers said they bring their own drinks because certain restaurants do not offer what they want on the beverage menu.

La provincia di Hubei in Cina è la prima regione del Paese ad aver revocato il divieto per i clienti di portare e consumare le proprie bevande al ristorante. I rappresentanti dell’industria alimentare sono tornati sui propri passi, per la crescente protesta della gente indignata per la regola.
L’industria alimentare di gestione del regolamento in Wuhan, nella provincia di Hubei, in precedenza aveva autorizzato i ristoranti a rifiutare il servizio ai clienti che portavano nei locali il proprio cibo o bevande.
Il nuovo regolamento in vigore dal 1° maggio, è stato rilasciato congiuntamente dalla Food Wuhan Industry Association, l’Associazione Consumatori Wuhan Wuhan e le imprese private di associazione.
