Sofas made in China, thousands of people left horribly burnt by toxic sofas |
Hundreds of UK consumers who suffered severe burns from toxic sofas manufactured in China will receive a combined compensation payout of US$30 million.
The victims received skin burns and peeling from a chemical called DMF (dimethyl fumarate) that was found in the leather sofas manufactured by Chinese firms Linkwise and Eurosofa.
The chemical was used to treat the sofas to prevent mold during their transit from China and subsequent storage.
Richard Langton, a senior litigation partner at Russell Jones & Walker who led the group action, said in a statement.
At the start there was a real fear factor as nobody knew the cause. The doctors took nine months to identify the chemical. Some people thought they had skin cancer or were dying.
The EU has now banned the use of DMF in leather sofas.
We believe many sofas are still in use with DMF in them. Anyone who develops symptoms should seek urgent medical advice. Anyone who has not registered a claim yet, should seek help as time is running out to bring a claim”.
And americans? Continue to purchase unsafe Chinese products.
China has learned that a vibrant economy stems from exporting more than a country imports. In 2006, China exported $287.8 billion to the U.S. We exported $55.2 billion to China. See the difference?
The Chinese government is hostile to America, but American yet more keep buying their low-quality products, just to save a few bucks.

Migliaia di persone ustionate dai divani fabbricati in Cina In Inghilterra, duemila persone riceveranno un risarcimento per le ustioni riportate a causa di un agente chimico presente nei divani fabbricati in Cina.
I divani, prodotti da due aziende cinesi, Linkwise ed Eurosofa, erano stati trattati con un agente fungicida, il DMF, conosciuto come dimetilfumarato antiparassitaro chimico. Il DMF era stato utilizzato sui divani, sistemati nei depositi per proteggerli dalla muffa.
Gli acquirenti dei divani (centomila quelli venduti con il DMF), dopo qualche tempo hanno iniziato ad accusare gravi problemi alla pelle, irritazione agli occhi, difficoltà respiratorie.
L’agente chimico utilizzato per i divani, in seguito è stato bandito dall’Unione europea dopo i casi denunciati in quattro Stati membri.
La notizia è emersa per una causa di risarcimento richiesto all’Alta Corte in Gran Bretagna.

Alcuni casi non erano così gravi, per fortuna, anche se molte persone hanno detto di aver vissuto il peggior periodo della loro vita".
