‘The Birth of Venus’ depicts the Goddess Venus, having emerged from the sea as a full grown woman, arriving at the sea-shore. Venus emerges from the water on a shell, blown towards shore by the Zephyrs, symbols of spiritual passions, and with one of the Ores, goddesses of the seasons, who hands her a flowered cloak.

A proposito di Botticelli ‘La nascita di Venere’
Il quadro rappresenta la dea Venere, nuda su una conchiglia, che sorge dalla spuma del mare ed è sospinta e riscaldata dal soffio di Zefiro, il vento fecondatore, abbracciato a Clori, la ninfa che simboleggia la fisicità dell’atto d’amore. Come sfondo alla splendida immagine abbiamo la spiaggia di Cipro, l’isola cara a Venere, e una delle Ore, le ninfe che presiedono al mutare delle stagioni, porge alla dea un manto ricamato di fiori per proteggerla.
